Wellbeing
At Fountain Gate Primary School, student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. Guided by our core values of Respect, Trust and Care, we work together to create a safe, inclusive and connected community where every child feels valued, supported and ready to learn.
Our wellbeing approach draws on evidence-based practices that create calm and supportive learning environments where students can feel settled, attentive and ready to engage in learning. We take a whole-school approach that promotes belonging, positive relationships and respect for self and others.
To meet the diverse needs of our students, the school has established a Multidisciplinary Wellbeing Team that includes two full-time wellbeing and inclusion leaders, a social worker, speech therapist, occupational therapist and psychologist. Working together, this team provides classroom support and small-group programs that help children build skills, confidence and reach their learning and developmental goals.
Our approach builds social-emotional learning, resilience and positive connections, while supporting students’ individual needs through proactive, inclusive and collaborative practices, including:
-
Caring and skilled staff who nurture students’ personal and interpersonal development
-
A whole-school restorative approach that helps students repair issues and move forward productively
-
Positive behaviour education that protects rights and reinforces responsibilities through our values of Respect, Trust and Care
-
Inclusive practices that ensure equitable access, participation and success for all students
-
Anti-bullying and diversity programs that promote understanding, acceptance and celebration of difference
Through these combined efforts, we build a caring and connected community where every student feels safe, respected and supported to reach their full potential, academically, socially and emotionally.
Wellbeing in Action
Our wellbeing programs and daily routines help students feel connected, supported and ready to learn.
-
Breakfast Club runs daily from 8:30 am in a dedicated space and is free for all students. Each morning, students can enjoy cereal, toasties, fruit and milk provided through our partnership with Foodbank. The program is supported by school staff and volunteers who create a positive start to the day. Breakfast Club helps students build connections, feel settled and begin their day nourished, focused and ready to learn.
-
Lunchtime Clubs provide opportunities for students to connect with others, explore interests and enjoy supported activities in a friendly and inclusive environment. Students can take part in a range of activities such as chess, art, board games, craft and LEGO. These clubs help foster friendship, confidence and belonging within and across year levels.
-
Our Student Play Leaders program empowers senior students to lead and participate in minor games with younger students during playtimes. The program promotes positive leadership, cooperation and safe play practices while strengthening connections between year levels.
-
Attendance is a key focus at our school through our POP: Present, On Time, Prepared messaging. We encourage every student to be at school each day, ready to learn and connect with others. Regular attendance supports strong relationships, steady progress and the development of positive life habits.
Students are recognised for positive attendance through certificates and the opportunity to participate in Attendance Reward Events at the end of each term, celebrating commitment, effort and engagement in school life.
